Eurobodalla Shire Council

This is the Council building and library and Information Centre in Moruya.

Wikipedia tells us:

"The Eurobodalla Shire Council was formed in 1913 with the responsibility for administering local government functions along 110 kilometres (68 mi) of the NSW coast between Durras and Wallaga Lake.
The Council administers only about 30% of the area of the Shire as the remaining 70% is non-rateable crown land held as national park and state forest: 40% of the shire is national park, 30% is state forest, 20% is productive farmland and 10% is urban settlement.
The Shire is unusual in that nearly half of ratepayers are non-residents. Just over 17% of ratepayers are residents of Canberra. Although the permanent population is around 34,100, the visiting population (who stay more than 3 nights) is 3.1 million per year."

Meet Esmay and Emil Hropic, fisherpeople, at Moruya Farmers' Market

On Tuesday afternoons we like to go to Moruya Farmers' Market to buy fresh produce, and we get our fish from Esmay and Emil. It's all locally caught.

The sign says that Esmay is a proud professional fisher endorsed to fish in the NSW Estuary General and Open Prawn Trawl fisheries. She is a steward of the marine environment where she works, and she practices and embraces environmental fishing methods.                            Emil is a 7th generation professional fisher, similarly endorsed, and is passionate about providing the community with access to local seafood in a responsible and sustainable manner.

The last Holden....a celebration in Moruya

On Friday 20 October 2017, the very last Australian-made car rolled off the production line in Adelaide, South Australia. No more Holdens, Toyotas, Mitsubishis, Fords or other cars once manufactured here. The car industry has been a victim of globalisation, the end of tariff barriers, the end of government subsidies, and changed taste in cars.

On Saturday, the Holden dealership in Moruya held an exhibition of old Holdens.

This is an iconic model - the FJ. It was produced from 1953 to 1957. It was based on the first model, the FX.

Sue's old sewing box

I couldn't resist the charms of Sue's sewing box. It is so pretty. Sue is the wife of the market-holder from whom I bought it.

He wasn't sure whether she has made it herself. I haven't seen one of these for many years. For decades I have had buttons in and old jar, kept in the cupboard above the stove.

I think those buttons have found a new home.

When we were little my sister and I used to love playing with Mum's button jar. They used to get sorted by colour and size and other combinations. Perhaps that is why I became a librarian? I know it contributed to the sifting and sorting sort of person I am!
