Around the 'pirate cave'

We have always called this deeply incised channel 'The Pirate Cave. George always proceeds tentatively around the interior to the other side, and looks back to make sure I am close by! One day the sea will break through to the other side, forming an arch, or the roof will collapse, perhaps blocking off North Rosedale beach from the main beach. I just hope I am not underneath when it happens!

Stairs to Nun's Beach

For many decades people have accessed Nun's Beach via a track which passes through private property. The property, 'The Retreat' was owned by the Catholic Church, and they tolerated people using it, as long as they did not create any disturbance. The sale of the property saw the new owners exercise their rights and bar people from use.

This created a problem for the users of Nun's Beach (mostly locals). The only other access is via the sharp rocks around the headland towards the main beach at Rosedale, or a steep and slippery "goat track".

A new set of stairs has now been built above the "goat track". It was funded by contributions from the Rosedale Association Inc, generous locals, and the Shire Council, who provided the workforce.

In with the new bridge

A walk over the new Batemans bay bridge affords great views of the bay, and of course the old bridge.

For more about the old bridge, see previous post "Out with the old bridge".
