Stairs to Nun's Beach

For many decades people have accessed Nun's Beach via a track which passes through private property. The property, 'The Retreat' was owned by the Catholic Church, and they tolerated people using it, as long as they did not create any disturbance. The sale of the property saw the new owners exercise their rights and bar people from use.

This created a problem for the users of Nun's Beach (mostly locals). The only other access is via the sharp rocks around the headland towards the main beach at Rosedale, or a steep and slippery "goat track".

A new set of stairs has now been built above the "goat track". It was funded by contributions from the Rosedale Association Inc, generous locals, and the Shire Council, who provided the workforce.

The next phase: hazard identification (9 Jan 2020)

After the fires, the Hazmat teams came round to tape off properties and identify hazards for further investigation. Lots of the houses, including the one next to us, were older ones containing asbestos.

Night patrol active (7 Jan 2020)

Following some reports of looting and theft in the area, Rosedale locals came together to work with police to provide some security. At night from about 10 am to 2am or later, we took it in shifts to drive around slowly, just being  a"presence". This was not vigilantism....the idea was to call police if anything suspicious was noticed.

Rosedale - the bushfire aftermath (6 Jan 2020)

Some images from around South Rosedale. North Rosedale had far more destruction, but we didn't feel comfortable wandering around over there. It was also very dangerous, with power lines down, and trees smouldering and possibly falling. Thirteen houses were lost in South Rosedale, some 60 in North.
